Starry summer

From June 23 to July 13, 2026, Karlovac will become one of the most vibrant destinations in continental Croatia thanks to Zvjezdano ljeto (Starry Summer), the city’s traditional celebration marking Karlovac Day. Over the course of three weeks, visitors can enjoy a diverse program combining culture, music, sports, gastronomy, and local traditions at numerous locations across the city.

As Karlovac celebrates its 447th birthday, more than 150 events will take place in the city’s squares, parks, promenades, riverbanks, and cultural venues. Designed for all generations, the program attracts both local residents and visitors from Croatia and abroad.

The festivities will officially begin on June 23 with a ceremonial parade featuring the Karlovac Civic Guard, Karlovac Majorettes, and the City Wind Orchestra, followed by the raising of the city flag and a concert by Jacques Houdek. The evening will culminate with the Ivanjski Krijes (St. John’s Bonfire Festival), one of Karlovac’s most iconic traditions and a protected element of Croatia’s intangible cultural heritage. Held on both banks of the Kupa River, the event includes a rich entertainment program and a spectacular fireworks display that draws thousands of visitors each year.

Throughout the festival, Karlovac will host a variety of events, including the International Folklore Festival, Flavours of the World, PARKiranje, KaKaFe, the Karlovac Dance Festival, and the Street Art Gallery. With performers, artists, and guests arriving from various countries, Starry Summer continues to strengthen its international reputation.

Visitors looking for active experiences will also find plenty to enjoy. The sports program includes tournaments, recreational activities, and special events, highlighted by the Gem Set Croatia event organized by the Marin Čilić Foundation, which will take place on July 12 at Vunsko Polje.

Music lovers can look forward to concerts and performances for a wide range of tastes, including the popular Karlovac Open Air Tribute Festival. The celebration will conclude on July 13 with the traditional Birthday Ball featuring 447 dancing couples, followed by a concert by Croatian pop star Jelena Rozga.
