In the history of warfare, Barilović was never conquered! The former grandeur of Barilović's defensive fortress is now hidden within the old town’s walls, overlooking the blue-green clarity of the Korana River. And the wind knows the story—it was there when nobility strolled through the old town’s courtyard, and the thunder of horses took renowned brave warriors into battle. Down in the fields, across the bridge, wheat was harvested, and joyful children bathed in the Korana, just as they do today. The Korana has always been there, for them and for all of us, with its tufa barriers, waterfalls, and breathtaking canyon.

Barilović is the richest area in Karlovac County in terms of the number and value of archaeological findings, hidden under the canopy's shadows and yet to be fully unveiled to the world. The old town of Barilović is registered as a cultural monument and open to all visitors. Biking to Barilović, located 15 km from Karlovac, will offer a relaxing journey along the Korana, with views of flower-strewn meadows and green forests that hold their own secrets. You’ll uncover them yourself if you just veer off the main road toward the Srnjak Forest near Siča and take a peaceful rest—in a sarcophagus! Ancient Roman trade routes left their traces, and lost sarcophagi can still be found in the forests around Barilović. Just over the hill, Bubijeva Pit hides in the forest—a Roman necropolis with bones 1,800 years old. Vodena Pit near Siča has been known since 1888, when tourists arrived by carriage from Karlovac, and to this day you can see remains of ancient torches that once lit the cave.

One hidden secret lies in Vražića Cave along the Korana, right in the heart of Barilović. Legend has it that a great white catfish lives there! A legend?
