Vojnić, a paradise for nature lovers and… socializing! A good tourist slogan will make you redirect your travel plans toward Vojnić. By crossing the old stone bridge, you enter a world where history from all eras intertwines with the present, built upon these foundations: Petrova Gora with its monument, the Central Partisan Hospital, the archaeological site of the Pauline Monastery, the Royal Grave, the ruins of the fortresses of Otmić grad, Klokoč, and Krstinja, well-maintained educational trails, an ornithological park, and the Mushroom Festival in Muljava.

The old fortified towns around Vojnić – Otmić grad, Klokoč, and Krstinja – serve as an introduction to the historical events of this area. Built between the 13th and 16th centuries, these partially preserved stone structures stand as witnesses to the battles and hardships faced by the local inhabitants. From this era, there is also the site at the highest peak of Petrova Gora, Mali Petrovac, with the remains of the Pauline Monastery of Saint Peter. The Paulines resided here for 300 years, and after centuries of struggle, they withdrew to the monastery at Kamensko near Karlovac.

The more recent history leads you to Petrova Gora and the monument erected in 1981, once a representative example of socialist architecture, now left to the ravages of time. To commemorate World War II, visit the Central Partisan Hospital, hidden in the dense forest and dugouts. On Petrova Gora is the oldest monument, the Royal Grave, the site where Croatian King Petar Svačić died in 1097.

If you're more interested in enjoying nature, take a walk on the educational trails, one of which is adapted for people with disabilities. You can also visit the Petrovac Ornithological Park or simply sit on the terrace of the Muljava Hunting Lodge and enjoy pancakes with blueberry sauce. When you descend back to Vojnić, check if the old mills are still operating. One is on the descent road from Petrova Gora, and another can be found in Vojišnica.
